In , Feynman delivered the Caltech commencement address on the topic of cargo cult science , which has the semblance of science, but is only pseudoscience due to a lack of "a kind of scientific integrity, a principle of scientific thought that corresponds to a kind of utter honesty" on the part of the scientist.

He instructed the graduating class that "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself—and you are the easiest person to fool. So you have to be very careful about that.

After you've not fooled yourself, it's easy not to fool other scientists. You just have to be honest in a conventional way after that.

Feynman served as doctoral advisor to 31 students. In , Feynman supported his colleague Jenijoy La Belle , who had been hired as Caltech's first female professor in , and filed suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission after she was refused tenure in La Belle finally received tenure in Many of Feynman's colleagues were surprised that he took her side.

He had got to know La Belle and both liked and admired her. In the s, Feynman began thinking of writing an autobiography, and he began granting interviews to historians.

There is some comfort in the fact that I was the 7th person this year they cut, and two more have gone after me.

They now want education and experience to even interview for the simplest jobs. We are buying our self worth, measuring our success by our employment status.

Working or not working. This is going to be an unrecognizable nation at the rate we are going. Breaking the spirits of the productive people is probably not the best long term plan.

We become a workforce of Lemmings. Impeding creativity and development, and taking away our will to triumph.

Not to mention adding a whole new layer of discontent to our daily lives. Job interviews feel like first dates. And truly, they are.
